Uhills Kids Art Classes (Ages 7-9) - Spring 2023

8 Week Course, $250

This course is from February 8th - March 29th.

Classes will take place outdoors in the University Hills community space at the junction of Angelou and Coltrane. Class will start promptly at 4:30 on Wednesday and run until 5:30. Please arrive a few minutes early so that class time can be optimized.

The subject of this course will be animals, and we will focus on learning how to use different mediums to create works of art. Upon completion of the course, artists will have a sketchbook with their work, as well as a final project of their own concept and creation. 

Sketchbooks and all materials will be provided for use during class, and a material fee will be due before the first class on February 8th. The material fee will be about $25/student but will depend on the number of students enrolled.

Please include the name, age, and pronouns of the artist under "Add a note" at checkout. 

WEEK 1 - Draw what you see

This class will be an introduction to drawing and using basic shapes and line weights to make a composition.

WEEK 2 - Land Animals

Artists will have a choice of 3 land animals to draw and we will work together as a class to sketch them out. We will learn techniques to use markers to complete the drawings. J

WEEK 3 - Birds

Artists will have a choice of 3 birds to draw and we will work together as a class to sketch them out. We will learn to use oil pastels to complete the drawings.

WEEK 4 - Sea Animals

Artists will have a choice of 3 sea creatures to draw and we will work together as a class to sketch them out. We will learn to use watercolors to paint the drawings.

WEEK 5 - Magical Creatures

Artists will have a choice of 3 magical creatures to draw and we will work together as a class to sketch them out. We will learn to use colored pencils to complete the drawings.

WEEK 6 - Landscapes

The class will review atmospheric perspective and creating depth in landscapes. Collage materials will be provided for artists to create their own landscapes.

WEEK 7 - Final Project Part 1

Artists will begin their final project with a subject of their choosing. They can choose one of the animals used so far in class, or they can bring in an image of a different animal. Each student will be guided through the process of composing their final project.

WEEK 8 - Final Project Part 2

Artists will continue working on their final project with the medium of their choosing. All materials taught in the course will be available for the students' use. They can decide to use one material or as many as they would like. Each student will be guided through the process of completing their final project. 

At 5:30 on the last day of class, student's work will be displayed for a short 15 minute reception giving parents and peers time to see everyone's creations.
